Welcome to the What's New Section of the AFMS website. We have a few important announcements to make about the site, then you can read on about the latest AFMS news. Net Step Internet Services, LLC. has completed the remainder of the site. The AFMS Measurement Forum is fully functional, so get in there and discuss something! The topics will be organized by subject, and Net Step has designed a custom Search Engine that allows you to search through all the messages in the forum for discussions on a particular topic. We have finished the Search Engine, and we'd like to encourage you to use when using our library for research. It allows you to search the entire AFMS website (including the Measurement Forum discussions) for articles on ANY topic. We are in the process of scanning in the HUGE database of Short Course articles and papers submitted over the last few years, and as we include them, they will be indexed by our Search Engine. We have removed the Registration Page for the 1998 Measurement Short Course. There was a great turnout, and we'll cover it in depth in the next newsletter. We are replacing this section with a page where companies can register for AFMS membership on-line. Check back for the latest news! |

The topic for the regular April meeting is Installation of Officers. This is your big chance. If you've been saying "If it were me, I'd......", well now you can! Even if you haven't said this, the society needs fresh ideas and different perspectives. Think about what you might enjoy and like to contribute. I suspect we will take a hard look at noon meetings, with the huge turnout for the March meeting. Those of you who would attend a noon, but not a night might want to make your point at the meeting and maybe find something you would like to help with. You folks who like evening meetings won't win any point by not attending this evening meeting to express your point of view. In any case this is an important decision that would best be served by a large turnout to express their views. See you all at the AFMS Measurement Short Course April 7-8 at the Lafayette Hilton & Towers!
Whatever the reason, the March meeting was the largest regular meeting in recent memory - literally standing room only. Your AFMS secretary is a firm believer in "don't fix what ain't broke". Now if we can be sure we have the recipe right, we can look forward to lots of company with lots of feedback! The March meeting recipe included:
We can't do number 3 but once a year, but the rest can be. Your president, Danny McFarland noted after the meeting we might have more confusion then it's worth to switch back & forth from noon to night. A good point. What do you think? Half & half, all noon, all night. Which way do we go? We need input folks! |

TIP OF THE MONTH QUESTION: A sales and check meter are tested each month, with the volumes compared on a daily basis. How can it be determined which test causes a shift in the daily difference? ANSWER: The test reports will show calibration and zero adjustments, as well a plate changes and conditions. However, the change is often due to operational changes. For instance, checking the plate releases built-up fluid on the upstream side of the plate. The accuracy is improved, for how long depending on the amount a fluid in the gas stream. The best answer then lies in testing the meters on different days. Which meter caused a change can be readily determined. Also, the prospect of both meters changing on the same day can be avoided. In the scenario above of fluid in the meter tube, the error caused by the fluid is easily determined when the meters are tested on separate days, with both test days showing a daily difference which can be calculated and justified to management to improve the problem. |
