AFMS On Line Library
- American
Gas Association This is the website of an
organization composed of approximately 300 North American Natural
Gas Companies. They also publish the American Gas Magazine and participate in International Industry
programs in over 30 nations around the globe. This site has a members
section with an extensive collection of resources available for use,
but their non- members section also contains a wealth of information,
including an on-line version of the American Gas Magazine.
- American
Petroleum Institute This major national trade organization headquartered
in Washington D.C. represents the petroleum industry in public forums
around the world. It testifies before Congress, and other government
bodies, on behalf of the petroleum industry, and offers it website
as a resource tool for members of this industry. They have organized
a useful collection of materials to help the industry keep aware of
salient issues in the national and international arena. This site
offers special access to its resources for companies that are members
of the API.
- The
Gas Processors Association is a non-profit trade organization
of about 140 companies. Together their membership accounts for almost
90% of all natural gas liquids produced in the United States. Their
site offers members exclusive access to standards and papers. They
host several trade publications, and have on line versions available
for browsing on the site for free.
- The
Gas Research Institute (GRI) is the research, development, and
commercialization (RD&C) organization of the natural gas industry,
whose mission is to discover, develop, and deploy technologies and
information that measurably benefit gas customers and the industry.
Their site has a wealth of technical information and resources that
cover all aspects of the gas sector of the petroleum industry. you
can even order custom reports prepared by the institute directly for
their web page. The most extensive resources are available only for

- The Independent
Petroleum Association of America is a national association
that represents the 8,000 independent crude oil and natural gas exporters
& producers in the United States, operating in cooperation with 44
non-affiliated national, state, and regional associations. Their
Government Relations section is a great source of information
on recent developments in federal regulatory actions and national
energy policy.
- The
International Society for Measurement and Control This international
organization is compromised of 22 technical divisions specializing
in measurement and control science. It is a clearinghouse for important
developments in measurement, and offers its members a diverse collection
of publications, internet resources, and industry-specific aides to
help you address your company's measurement science challenges.
- Southern
Gas Association based out of Dallas, TX, is a trade association
for the natural gas industry. The SGA provides a broad array of industry-specific
training. The website is a supplement to their conferences, seminars
and courses offered by its gas company members, which provide 80%
of all gas used in this country.

- The Fluid
Flow Group is a sub-division of The National Institute of Standards and Technology which establishes,
maintains, and disseminates the standards used by U.S. Industry for
fluid flow rate and fluid quantity measurements.
- The Minerals Management
Service (MMS) is a bureau of the U.S.
Department of the Interior. The mission of the MMS is to manage
the mineral resources of the
Outer Continental Shelf in an environmentally sound and safe manner
and to timely collect, verify, and distribute mineral revenues from
Federal and Native American lands.
- The
National Institute of Standards and Technology established by
Congress "to assist industry in the development of technology ...
needed to improve product quality, to modernize manufacturing processes,
to ensure product reliability ... and to facilitate rapid commercialization
... of products based on new scientific discoveries." It is an agency
of the U.S. Department of Commerce's Technology
Administration.

Office of Conservation of the Louisiana Department of Natural
Resources is the website of the state body that handles oil & gas
operations and issued Statewide Order No. 29-D-1, referenced In Roland
Rollins' paper State Of Louisiana Measurement
Regulations, presented on April 7, 1998 at the AFMS Measurement
Short Course. The server seems a bit slow, but it has a great collection
of contact info and recent news about developments in the state's
oil and natural gas industry.
- The
Process Measurements Division of the The National Institute of Standards and Technology develops
and provides measurement standards and services, measurement techniques,
recommended practices, sensing devices, instrumentation, and mathematical
models required for analysis, control, and optimization of industrial
processes.

of measurement studies. This site has an extensive collection of several
different journals and publications and they have the full text of
their articles on line. You can even search their database by keyword.

Industrial Computing is the on-line journal of the ISA.
It covers many diverse issues for computing technology professionals
in the manufacturing industry. Offering it's own library, this site
can keep you up to date on important news and upcoming events in the
Industrial Computing field.
- InTech
Magazine This is the International Journal of Measurement
and Control's website, published by the ISA. It is targeted towards process engineers and offers an
outstanding survey of important economic, political, and scientific
developments in the process and manufacturing industries.

Measurement & Control News A controlled-circulation news
publication sent free of charge to qualified engineering, scientific
and technical personnel using instruments for measurement and control,
data acquisition, recording, and the computation associated with them.

Motion Control Magazine is another excellent publication of
the ISA that provides
a supplement to their print publication. It is designed for engineers
developing motion control systems and subsystems, and features many
resources found only on their website.
- Oil
World is quite possibly one of the most amazing oil and gas sites
on the web. It is updated TWICE daily, and includes information on
EVERYTHING in the oil and gas industry. The webmaster has been operating
this site since 1996, and they have really done an excellent job providing
coverage on almost every new development affecting the oil and gas
industry since then. It's not a technical resource, although they
do provide links to other technical resources on the Internet. It
is primarily a news service, but you get news on every technical sector
in the oil and gas industry. If you don't currently read this site
daily, you are LOSING MONEY! They even offer daily fax services of
featured highlights or energy quotes.
- The
Petroleum Pages Really, this a extensive collection of links to
all things related to Petroleum on the web, maintained by the Center
for Petroleum and Geosystems Engineering at the University of Texas
at Austin. The links have no explanations or summaries (meaning you'll
have to do a lot more exploring to find what you are looking for),
but if you are stumped on a question, or just have a few hours to
spend, you should check this place out. If you search hard enough,
you'll probably find what you need.
- The
Petrozone This site is an ok resource. It is primarily a collection
of links to various other websites on the Internet, and it doesn't
have much that the larger oil and gas sites don't have. It is really
easy to navigate through, however, which makes it more likely that
you'll find exactly what you're looking for at this site. It isn't
specifically targeted for measurement professionals, but it is a good
place to do research on general oil and gas topics.
- The
Pipeliner's Yellow Pages is sponsored by the Drannon Marketing
Group, and has a pretty decent collection of links to Pipeline resources.
Although they focus on companies and organizations directly connected
to servicing and maintaining pipelines, the scope of this sub-sector
of the oil and gas industry is rather broad, so you will find a diverse
collections of resources here. This site also has a pretty decent
collection of resumes and personnel information, so if you're looking
for a job, or for prospective employees, you might want to visit.
The site is not that easy to navigate through, and it's not very visually
appealing, but it does offer good informational links, so it's worth
a visit.
- The
Refining Connection This site is part of IBM's
on line information network for the petroleum industry. They have
a wide range of coverage on all issues relating to Refining: links
to other Internet resources, energy quotes, press releases, and even
interactive forums. This site is really great, and the webmasters
will even help you locate resources you're looking for. All you have
to do is email them, and help is only a few mouse clicks away.
